Another cup

“He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Passover has several cups of wine in the ceremony. We are not told which cup Jesus took when He took ‘another cup’, however the cup, for Him represented suffering and for us the washing away of all our sins.

I am still grateful! I knew what it was like to desperately want to find Jesus and forgiveness. Having found Him, I will not let Him go. Today I am mindful that tonight could be the Last Supper He celebrated with His disciples. The mounting awareness would take its toll on Him. We see this reality as He prayed in the garden, “Father if it is possible let this cup pass from me, but not my will but Your will be done”. He sweated great drops of sweat, like drops of blood. This was agonising.

What are you facing today? Could it be anything like this? May you find comfort, as I do, in the fact that my Saviour has been here. The resurrection is coming! Amen!
