“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Colossians 3:13 NLT
We must be aware that there are faults and then downright sinful behaviours that affect others. I have a girlfriend who does not like to cut people off, she is more tolerant than I of sin. Mind you it took me a very long while to be able to do that anyway. We have taken the admonishment to love to extremes, when Paul also dealt with sin in the church, standards of men in ministry etc.
We must be careful to understand what we should forgive and what we should remove from our lives. We know we have not forgiven often if bitterness is agitating our hearts towards people. If someone asks us about a person and we are bitter towards them a steam of horrible blackness pours forth. However, if we have forgiven but removed them from our lives, we pray for them to see them restored.
Bitterness refuses to forgive. It will take the one it possesses to the grave with a black heart. We don’t want this in our lives. Repent and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help to forgive and move on. Amen!
