“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us — to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”Ephesians 3:20-21 HCSB
These verses come from a powerful epistle written by the apostle Paul. As I read these verses I am challenged to meditate upon them and make them mine today.
I notice in myself a glossing of scripture to move on and do or read the next thing without fully apprehending the present. Today I am spending time meditating on these two verses and making them mine.
They tell me that my Heavenly Father is able to do far more than I ask or think. That is massive. If I struggle with this I only need to remember the image that Jesus gave us of the Father in the parable of the Prodigal son. That father is a loving, forgiving father. He went above and beyond the request made of Him by the repentant son. That is the image of the Father I need to keep.
The verses above go on to say, according to the power at work in us. What power is that? The Holy Spirit resides in us and He is the power of God. Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit is a comforter and guide.
In the book of Genesis 1:2 we are told that the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the deep and when God said, “let there be…” it was He who performed those miracles. Therefore, if that same power is in residence, then I have a powerfully ally.
Romans 8:10,11 tells me: i “And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then He who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through His Spirit who lives in you.”
