““Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.”Luke 6:35 NLT
Do you have enemies? Probably not ones that wish to kill you. Most westerners live in comparative daily safety. Therefore, those who would qualify would be those who have hurt and offended us, perhaps stolen from us.
I am mindful of a young couple who lost four of their children to a driver who lost control of his car. This couple loved God and forgave the man. This would have required godly strength. The couple went on to have another child.
There are many stories about the loss suffered by the innocent whist the perpetrators run free. Not being bitter and resentful would require the Holy Spirit’s help. Personally, those who have hurt me the most are the closest to me.
So, today May grace abound in our hearts as we consider who needs our forgiveness. Amen!
