Broken People

Jeremiah 8:21-22 (MSG) For my dear broken people, I'm heartbroken. I weep, seized by grief. Are there no healing ointments in Gilead? Isn't there a doctor in the house? So why can't something be done to heal and save my dear, dear people?
If we look at the whole of Jeremiah we see a loving God totally frustrated by a people who will not hear or see the truth. They are rushing headlong into disaster.
We His people can run the risk of the same fate if we continue to believe 'if it is to be it is up to me'. The only thing 'me' has to do is find a relationship of faith and trust with the Lord.
While ever we continue in our own understanding we lose. Jeremiah 6:14 (MSG) 14 My people are broken—shattered!— and they put on band-aids, Saying, 'It's not so bad. You'll be just fine.' But things are not 'just fine'!
If we think pursuing our own understanding of the Lord and His word is enough then again we are wrong. We can spruke with the best and sound oh so good, but if we don't do it His way then we are on the wrong way.
Jeremiah 6:16 (MSG) 16 God's Message yet again: "Go stand at the crossroads and look around. Ask for directions to the old road, The tried and true road. Then take it. Discover the right route for your souls. But they said, 'Nothing doing. We aren't going that way.'

Jesus Himself said 'I am the way, the truth, the life. No man comes to the father but by me.' There is only one way, His way. He uses relationship (fellowship) and His church (leadership). As I stay in fellowship and submit to good leadership I am safe.

We live in a day when people everywhere run to and fro looking for a teaching that will tickle their ears. Jesus teaches us to deny ourselves and pick up our cross. We have to use 'no' to the carnal thinking, fleshly desires and laziness.

Jeremiah 6:21 (MSG) 21 So listen to this. Here's God's verdict on your way of life: "Watch out! I'm putting roadblocks and barriers on the road you're taking. They'll send you sprawling, parents and children, neighbors and friends— and that will be the end of the lot of you."

Balaam's donkey could see the angel in the road blocking Balaam's path. Balaam beat his donkey for not proceeding, God gave the donkey speech. How foolish are we when we do not listen and run headlong into calamity. (Numbers 22:23) Balaam did not have a heart after God, he lusted for money.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts, look after them, allow them to desire only that which is good and right for us. If we lose our heart we are lost.

We live in dangerous times. Guard your heart and you will live. Amen!
