All Righteousness

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptised by him. But John tried to stop Him saying, "I need to be baptised by You, and yet You come to me?"
Jesus answered him, "allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him to be baptised. Matthew 3:13-15

The response of Jesus was the typical humble servant attitude when it came to things of God. 'Not my will but Yours be done Lord!'

Jesus knew why He was born and why He had come to earth, He knew His future and all of it's consequences.

Why was I born? What is my purpose? Did Jesus always know His purpose? Let's suppose He did not but that His life was a journey of discovery, there would be parallels then.

As He read scripture it would resonate inside of Him. When the scripture spoke prophetically about the Messiah He would identify and as He identified He would realise the sacrifice that awaited Him.

As I read scripture I read about the sons of God and our purpose, our way of living, our future. It resonates with me. How should then I live? (sounds like a title of a book)

My bible tells me how to live, what attitude to take and what my relationship is with my Lord. I also have a hope and a future. This life is not about the petty grievances of now, it is about the future, eternal glory that awaits me.

Forever and ever and ever I will be in eternity. This earth is my training ground. I am not here for a self-indulgent life of pleasure, I am here to learn and be made ready. In the process of being made ready for eternity I have a task, to live and breathe the Kingdom of God, share His spirit His message, His heart to the lost.

As I accept my task I begin to fulfill righteousness. I am the righteousness of God, my bible tells me this. I am special, I am called to walk as a daughter of the King. I cannot fulfill all righteousness if the works of darkness pollute me or if I have my version of 'high places' in my life where I worship anything other than Christ.

I cannot enshrine exercise, diet, study, diligent work ethic or conversely I cannot enshrine pleasure, gluttony, laziness, sickness and disease. Anything that takes glory from my Lord has to go.

Jesus lay down His right to be the Lord of baptism because it was right that He fulfill all righteousness. What do I need to lay down today?
