Chosen

After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them to a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. Matthew 17:1

Why after 6 days? Did it take that long for Jesus and Peter to sort out their stuff? Did Peter need that time to understand why Jesus rebuked him? (16:23) if he was anything like me he would. I take things in and they go down deep and have to work their way up to my conscious understanding and then ‘I get it’.

Why did Jesus only take Peter, James and John? Why not the others? Is this saying that these three were the closest? Were they the ones that He could trust? Trust with the revelation of His Godhead.

What does Jesus reveal to us? Does He give us His heart? Do we know how He feels about those around us? Does He show us His secrets?

What are the criteria to being chosen? We see Peter with foot and mouth disease yet he was chosen. Why? Perhaps because he tried, he loved and wanted in on what was happening. I could not imagine Jesus being able to leave him behind. He would be saying ‘where are you going Lord/ Let me come to?’

John we know about because he is mentioned as one who loved Jesus but his brother James we do not know about. What is his place in all this? Jesus would not take him alone just because he was related to John; he must have been a quiet but diligent guy.

Three very different people but chosen. I want to be one of these. I think I relate to Peter, I will step out and try but my mouth would let me down at times (more so when I was younger, sometimes still).

To think that I might miss out on what God is doing would be mortifying. I want what He is doing more than anything else. I like to have my ear to the railway line and hear His spirit coming. He is coming! Amen!
