Then the children were brought to Him so He might put His hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked them. Then Jesus said, "leave the children alone, and don't try to keep them from coming to Me, because the kingdom of heaven is made up of people like this." Matthew 19:13,14
The disciples are getting it wrong again. They had just misunderstood marriage and now they are assuming children are unimportant. Jesus had previously told them, in chapter 18 that to experience the kingdom of God they must become as little children and here are the little children and they have no time for them. How quickly we forget the lessons in a society which behaves in ignorance to deeper truth.
In our busy world the little people can be seen as a chore rather than a blessing, a source of frustration rather than a lesson in humility.
Children are a blessing from God and can be used by Him to teach us His ways. It is our role to foster that humility and retain that purity and give room for their characters to grow in Him. When we do our joy is full. Amen!
