The Gospel

Then Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."Matthew 28:18-20

Last night I went to a concert, 'Opera in the Alps', at Beechworth. It was quite good, mostly sung in Italian, which I appreciate but do not understand. It appears to be a full and vibrant language. There were thousands of people there, mostly my age and older. However there were some young, local talent and they were very good.

Today I am thinking, now if we put the gospel into Italian Opera people would come and hear it and even if they don't understand it they would be touched. Personally, I can appreciate a certain amount of Opera, but I know that most of the songs are about woeful things and prefer to listen to hope. My favourite singer is Andrea Bocelli, however last night I heard a youngish man by the name of Boyd Owen, he was very good. He sang a song that had 9 high C's in it and he did not screech, he did it well. My female favourite is Marina Prior.

When I was nursing and doing the pill round I would sing in the spirit and all the patients loved it. They made comments like, 'it sounds very celtic', and things like that. There is so much in song we do not tap.

The second last song of the night was sung by the couple who put on the show. When you look at people you would think 'why they are just ordinary folk', yet as soon as they opened their mouth, wow! what a beautiful sound. Graham and Margo Wall are probably in their 60's and they sang a beautiful love song.

Now you and I might be ordinary folk but we have the beauty of Christ resident inside, we need to step up and open our mouths and let out the glory of God and not our petty woes. What beauty we have inside, let it out. Amen!
