Revelation

The 11 disciples travelled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. When they saw Him they worshipped Him, but some doubted. Matthew 28:16,17

Jesus was crucified, the disciples came together, numb, questioning, perhaps praying. What to do?
Perhaps fasting. Jesus had said when asked why his disciples did not fast, "when the bridegroom is present you feast but that a time was coming when they would fast", when He was no longer with them."

This was now! What to do? What did Jesus want them to do? He had sent word by Mary, "tell the disciples to meet me in Galilee." That was obviously something familiar to them.

Do you have moments of uncertainty? I do! In those moments I have a sense to wait upon Him and find His mind. When I have His mind I can move on. At such times it might be good to fast, it helps.

Fasting is a tool we are given, along with prayer and giving. I heard a message about this out of Matthew 6 last Sunday and it rang true to me. The preacher, a guest, said that all three must be done without fanfare, in secret.

Seeking the Lord is a private matter, most often. I belong to Him and need to connect with Him. He is my source, my lover and friend. H holds the keys, He has the clarity, the mind the will that I need to move on.

Yesterday, before I left Canberra I went to the National Art Gallery and saw the Renaissance collection. The age of the art was amazing, the different styles interesting but my favourite was one of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. It was small and showed a relaxed, friendly Jesus casually conversing with a woman. I liked it because it had been commissioned by a man. In an era when everyone was having a Madonna and child, or themselves painted into the scene, here was the essence of the gospel painted on request. It was only small but very impressive.

To catch truth we have to spend time, seeking it. We spend time with truth, Jesus, and 'get it'. The original owner of the painting 'got it'. He understood the reality and truth about why Jesus came and what was the importance of the gospel. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was not the pinnacle of our faith. She was a good woman but Jesus was the giver of life and for that I am grateful.

The disciples needed to 'get it'. The above passage said that some doubted, they had not processed the importance and relevance of the cross. I don't know about you but there are times when I need 'time' to 'get it'. We can be slow on the uptake. Fortunately Jesus does not reject us for that. Amen!
