Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat. When His family heard this, they set out to restrain Him because they said, "He's out of His mind." Mark 3:20,21
Jesus was creating an uproar, crowds pushing and shoving, moving en mass creating chaos. Jesus' family would see this disturbance and the inability to control it and reason 'He is out of His mind.'
Have you ever had anyone say that about you? Has family judged your Christianity as insane? For me leaving the catholic Church and going into Charismata was seen as insane by my family. When I began to speak about the wonders of God and the new relationship I had with Him, how He was calling me to step out, 'insane' as the verdict.
Jesus was shaking the way things were and had been for a long time, He was tipping it all on it's head. God had come to dwell with mankind.
What did Jesus' family expect Him to do? How did they imagine He would behave? They had known Him at home for the past 30 years and He never did anything like He was now doing, He had changed.
What was different? He had been baptised with power and the Holy Spirit, can we blame Him? Being baptised with the Holy Spirit changed me.
I have bought a new car that has a turbo charger in it, I have to feed it high powered fuel, when I need it to it has much more power.
We are made in the image of God, we already have the turbo charger inside but we need the right fuel. That fuel is the Holy Spirit. When He takes charge we do amazing things, things that break through all the non-effective, powerless gospels and bring change to the lives of those around us.
The gospel is 'good news' not ineffective news. The world needs the power of God not the niceness of God without power. The gospel was never intended to move without power. We need to seek that fuel and step out with it and do great exploits. Amen!
