There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Him at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher, for no one can perform the signs you do unless God were with him".
Jesus replied, "I assure you: Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
"But how can anyone be born when he is old? Nicodemus asked Him. "Can he enter his mother's womb a second time and be born?"
Jesus answered, "I assure you: Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit."Jn 3:1-6
Nicodemus Jesus speaks at a higher level. He does not speak in parables, He teaches truth, insight, revelation.
Nicodemus recognises that Jesus is a teacher sent by God but does not recognise that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus goes on to teach him in the following passages He brings in revelation from the days of Moses (when the snake was put on a pole to stop the curse of snake bite).
In verse 16 Jesus goes on to teach Nicodemus that He is God's Son and that he has come into the world to redeem the world, not condemn it.
Jesus did not speak to others like this, this was special. I am so grateful that it happened because I can now read this scripture and know the truth. When I was being born again this was read to me. This conversation is relational while instructive.
Jesus finishes His conversation with Nicodemus with: "But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God."v21
There we have it! If we say we love truth and do not come into the light then we deceive ourselves because the light shows what manner of act it is. Jesus said He was the truth so it is to Him we come and allow our 'acts' to be discerned.
He is the Way and the only Way. Amen!
