Born Blind

As He was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth, His disciples questioned Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"neither this man or his parents sinned", Jesus answered. "This came about so that God's work might be displayed in Him." John 9:1-3

This passage brings up so many questions, and so many observations.

Jesus was passing by. 'Passing by' shows intention to another destination, this man was not where Jesus was going. However, he stopped and healed the man in an unusual way, he made a paste of mud with spittle and dirt and put it on the mans eyes, commanding him to go and wash in a nearby pool.

If I were the blind man I would wonder why this method. doesn't Jesus know the hardship He is placing on the man? Stumbling around in the dark with mud caked on his eyes. yet Jesus was working on the man's faith.

Yet I can strangely identify. Why? We are all born spiritually blind, myself I knew I was and so when I received Christ into my life my first words were, "I can see, I can see."

So let's look at the comparisons. The disciples questioned who sinned, the man or his parents. Jesus said neither. The fact that I was born 'spiritually blind', was not due to my own sin or my parent's sin but the fact that all men and women are born 'into sin' courtesy of Adam and Eve.

This man was born into an era that believed someone had sinned for him to be blind. What a stigma to carry.  Yet Jesus not only heals him but sets things right for him. It was not his fault.

The fact that judgement was made by all those around the man and they were wrong is liberating. What are you enduring because of wrong perception? what do you mistakenly believe you must carry because of God's judgement?

It doesn't work like that. He does not put stuff on you because He is in judgement of you. Just as Christ stopped to heal and broken life He is more than willing today to heal another, and another, and another.

Christ does not just favour the goodies who go to church either. His love is for all, sinner and saint because all belong to Him.

Don't accept sickness as from the Lord either. He does not inflict us. We have an enemy and it is not Christ. He is here to save us and only He can do that. Amen!
