The angels asked her, "why are you crying?" John 20:13
Mary Magdalene was standing outside the empty tomb crying because she could not find the Lord. In her mind He was dead, it was over and nothing could be done but to honour Him in death. The disciples still did not understand.
Jesus appears to her and still she does not recognise him, until he speaks her name.
Today is Easter Sunday and all over the world little children are waking to treats of different sorts. I have a grandson who believes he will not receive any chocolate because it affects him in a not so good way.
This morning he discovered that he has a gift of little plastic eggs with some chocolate in them. This is special chocolate, sought out for the occasion. His instant reaction was to say, 'nan you can have this chocolate.' He was going to be content with the plastic egg, this boy is almost 5.
This touches my heart. I had grieved for him because today he will meet with his cousins on a Easter egg hunt and not be able to eat the eggs, yet we have a plan.
In the scripture we see disciples believing all was over, that they had lost the light of their lives, but God had a plan.
In verse 17 Jesus says to Mary, Do not hold on to me yet, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, "I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."
Mary was given good news. Today we have a Jesus who did, indeed, do what He said He would do. He is God, He is our redeemer.
Today accept the gift given, do not reject it thinking you are unworthy or that He has failed. He conquered the grave and today 'our God is able!' Amen!
