Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. So Jesus said to Peter, "put your sword into its sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?" John 18:10,11
Earlier in the night Jesus had told His disciples that they would desert Him. Here we see Peter doing what He considered 'staying with Jesus' meant to him. Peter had resorted to the natural (or flesh).
Peter reacted and did not regard the big picture.
In verse 8 Jesus asked the soldiers to let His disciples go.
Peter's action brought forward ramifications, he could have also been arrested or worse killed. Jesus had plans for Peter, way ahead of this moment in time, he would die for Christ but yet, he had much to do.
Jesus shows us that although things seem awful bad, there is a plan and it is important we stick with the plan.
I left my brother's house yesterday as things were progressively going downhill. I had no idea what the next step was.
This morning I wake in a friendly, safe environment. The stress of yesterday is passed and now I plan the next step.
I could not allow the magnitude of emotion to swamp me and cause me to run back to where I came from. Yes there may be an emotional reaction but there must be measured actions afterwards.
I am grateful I am a girl and can cry it all out and then move on. All is good, my Father is still on His throne and His plans are huge and drip with abundance. Amen!
