Certainly a man walks about like a mere shadow. Indeed they frantically rush around in vain, gathering possessions without knowing who will get them. Now Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Psalm 38:6,7
Sounds like 2012 and not 1000BC. It seems that running around collecting stuff is an affliction of mankind, permanent.
David then says, 'now Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You!'
In futility we can have our sights on getting, 'to make us happy' or know that true happiness comes from God. In Matthew 6 we are exhorted to seek first the Kingdom of God, then 'all these things will be added'.
We can allow ourselves to become morbid with want and determine that we are not blessed because of the lack of stuff. If our eyes are on that which is fleeting, we will become governed by the having of that stuff. Yet as we look to the Lord and give Him our needs He provides in abundance all we need.
God is good and His blessings are best, they last and are not destroyed. Amen!
