Hunger For God
You are my help and my deliverer;
Oh Lord do not delay. Psalm 70:5b
Today I heard a good message from a 70 yo American preacher. My insides were say, 'Yes! Yes! Yes!'
He spoke about the reasons for staying close to God.? He talked about standing still.
I would hazard to guess that very few could embrace his message because of their belief structures.
Deep down inside we have a core belief structure, the blueprint that causes us to evaluate and behave.
If, deep down we are happy with us and where we have God placed, things will not change. We can settle for a whole lot less of God, all because we think, heroically, we are doing all we can.
To change we need impetus, a solid reason. Guilt lasts a short while, whereas revelation lasts a lifetime.
Revelation comes when we are hungry for more. If we are not hungry then we do not seek and if we do not seek, we do not find and we remain blind.
You see, if you think, 'I am serving in church, I am involved in caring for a connect group, or I teach Sunday school, and I am cool, this is all I can give God and people', then I can't do more.
Doing stuff is not relationship. Relationships happen because we like people, I would even say delight in people.
When we genuinely love God with ALL our hearts, souls and being then we want to connect with Him because we LoVe Him. When I want to connect with people because I love them, I can't wait to be with them.
I see a lot of church folk doing a superficial thing but not scratching the surface. They are cardboard cut outs dressing all the same, with a plastic smile, that goes nowhere. We can become so polished we impress only ourselves.
What is the answer? The sighted ones need to pray as if a tsunami was coming for those who are blind, because one is coming and they will be so hurt because they are blind.
In the verse above David knew he was desperate. Oh the joy of knowing truth, that is where you can find hunger!
