Love that Pursues
Therefore, I am going to persuade her, lead her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. I will give back her vineyards and make the Valley of Anchor(trouble) into a gateway of hope. Hosea 2:14,15
In the previous verses of this chapter we hear how unhappy The Lord is with His bride(His people) who had forsaken Him and gone after other lovers (gods) thinking that these gods had provided them with blessing. God decided to block His blessing so that they could see their folly and turn back to Him.
In the above verse we see the tender heart of God, willing to start again and take back His unfaithful bride.
To assume God is mean and vengeful one only has to read verses like this where again and again God pursues His people.
In the New Testament He gave His best and again was rejected, yet still He loves and opens the door to those who were not a part of the original people group, now anyone who believes can come in.
The words used in the scripture above speak of a passionate, loving God. When we fail, He woos us back, when we reject Him, He pursues us and calls out to us.
Hosea's wife was a promiscuous woman, perhaps a prostitute, her children's parentage was questionable, yet like God Hosea pursued his wife. Hosea was a type of the husband The Lord is to His people.
There is nothing that will not be forgiven, yet He is a jealous liver, not willing to share our affections with other gods.
I have two dogs and the youngest, Emma, from the day she came to me, made it quite plain that she wanted first place in my affections. If I am doling out pats to the oldest, Chelsie, Emma will push her aside. She gives me undivided attention and affection back, no one can take my place and she expects the same in return.
Seeing this I am again reminded of my God's live for me. I apologise for the simile but I am conscious that all He made, including dogs, reflect Him and I find the loyalty of dogs remind me of Him.
We are lived folks ! Amen!
