The Covenant
But they, like Adam, have violated the covenant;
There they have betrayed me. Hosea 6:7
It is not shown that God made a covenant with Adam, unless the agreement not to go to a particular part of the garden and eating forbidden fruit, in other words, obedience for eternal life, was what this scripture refers to.
There was a place called Adam but there is not known that any covenant breaking a of significance occurred there.
I am interested to think that God had a covenant with the man Adam.
I am interested because God is about covenants. He was the bringer of covenants to the world. Throughout scripture He is the initiator of covenants.
What covenant does He have with me? 'Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ and I will be saved.'
Salvation is an ongoing thing. Daily I must choose to walk in this covenant with my God. This is not a 'set and forget' thing. It is vital, living, alive and needs care and attention.
Just as in marriage, there are things that violate this covenant: unfaithfulness; unbelief. Fortunately I have Christ interceding for me and as I repent and turn again I am made whole.
Some believe you can never lose your salvation, I don't! Just as a spouse can reject their lifelong companions for another so can Christians reject their eternal companion. It does not mean He will not receive us back, He will, always, but we have to retain the ability to repent or we will turn around one day and not find it.
We have a gracious, lovingGod who does not judge but continually reaches out. It is us who judge, become offended, get disillusioned and move away.
It is time to come home! Amen!
