He meets us Where we Are at
Suddenly, an angel touched him. The angel told him, "get up and eat." Then he looked, and there at his head was a loaf of bread baked over hot stones, and a jug of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord returned for a second time and touched him. He said, " get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you". So he got up, ate, and drank. Then on the strength from that food, he walked 40 days and 40 nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. He entered a cave. There and spent the night. 1 kings 19:5-9
Does this sound like an uncaring, remote God? No!
Our God is vitally aware of all that transpires. Problems arise when we fail to see His hand and become distressed because things don't go to plan as we imagine they should.
Elijah was in distress. He had expected things to go differently and was confronted by the evil Jezebel and he ran. He ran over 100 Kms to the desert and lay down under a broom tree to die. Yet our God sent an angel not to rebuke him but to tend to his needs. Fancy talking the time to build a fire, knead bread and cook it plus supply refreshing water. Yes he could have zapped it into being, however this is irrelevant because the scene was warm and inviting, encouraging and refreshing.
Refreshed and beginning to heal, Elijah lay down again to sleep, a healing, refreshing sleep. Awakened again Elijah was again fed and this food sustained him for 40 days and nights as he travelled to Horeb to meet The Lord.
We have a God who is real and relevant, a God vitally interested in us and our needs. Trust Him, relax and allow Him to be God. Amen!
