Standing for Truth
So the king of Israel gathered the prophets, about 400 men, and asked them, "should I go against Ramoth-Gilead for war or should I refrain?"
They replied, "march up, and The Lord will hand it over to the king."
But Jehoshaphat asked, "isn't there a prophet of Yahweh here anymore?"let's us ask him."
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "there is still one man who can ask Yahweh, but I hate him because he never prophesies good about me, but only disaster. He is Micaiah son of Imlah. "The king shouldn't say that!" Replied Jehoshaphat" 1 Kings 22:6-8
It is amazing that Ahab had managed to collect another 400 prophets after the 400 that Elijah slayed. It never ceases to amaze how many are keen to get in on the act of prophesy when not having any relationship with the living God.
Jehoshaphat knew they were fakes. I wonder what gave them away? What gives away a fake? Pomp? grovelling to the evil king? Language? Whatever it was Jehoshaphat recognised the falsity.
Micaiah was told, "look the words of the prophets are unanimously favourable for the king" but Micaiah replied, "as The Lord lives, I will say whatever The Lord says to me."
We have two men out of many who have respect for the truth and hundreds who only want to hear what pleases them. Ahab went on to regret his shallow disregard for truth. He died in battle.
Having a heart for truth is important, it will save us, cleanse us, keep us. Just because all the crowd goes with what tickles their ears have the integrity to stand for truth. Amen!
