Stay Speechless
Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah, amazed that he stayed so long in the sanctuary. When he did come out, he could not speak to them. Then they realised that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He kept making signs to them and remained speechless. When the days of his ministry were completed, he went back home. Luke 1:21-23
The people depended on Zechariah, he had a job to do. Yet he needed to be with God's plan for him right then. He was receiving a message that would transform the then known world. He and his wife would bear a son, John the Baptist. John would prepare the way for the Messiah.
Being with the angel impacted John and left him speechless until John was born. This was because he had doubted the word the angel brought. This fact also impacted on his role as a priest, as a husband to Elizabeth, a neighbour and as a friend. He communicated by sign.
The fact that Zechariah could no longer speak spoke to those around him. They would give him respect because he lost his voice in a God encounter. Unknown to those around him he would regain his voice to pronounce the name of his son at his birth. This would add to his respect.
When God is working something new in your life, you are speechless or you ramble incoherently. As a woman I can attest to both. However, there comes a day of completion when you know what God has done.
God has a plan and it is best. Wait for it, for it will surely come! Amen! Don't be impatient and create your own, less than, alternative. You may live to regret it. Stay speechless!
