House of Prayer
" And the foreigners who join themselves to The Lord minister to Him, love the name of Yahweh and become His servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold firmly to My covenant- I will bring them to My holy mountain and let them rejoice in my house of prayer.......for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."Isaiah 56:6,7
Us non-Jews are the foreigners, we have made Yahweh our God, Jesus our Lord and saviour. The barrier was removed in Christ and now we can come in.
God intends His House, His church, to be a house of prayer for all nations. God loves not only our own culture but all cultures and they are welcomed in His House.
Jesus made a point of this scripture in Matthew 21:12-17. He went into the temple complex and drove out those who were buying and selling in the temple. He overturned the money changer's tables and the chairs of those selling doves. He told them that it was written that 'My House will be called a house of prayer but you have made it a den of thieves.' The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple complex and He healed them. The chief priests and scribes saw the wonders He did and the children shouting in the temple complex, 'Hosanna to the Son of David!' They were indignant. Jesus told them, 'have you never read: You have prepared praise from the mouths of children and nursing infants?'
The scribes and chief priests were intent of keeping the Status Quo. They saw no problem with the money changers being in the temple. The fact that Jesus was healing in the temple complex excited the children, who were not yet religious, and set captives free. This they had a problem with.
How sad it is when we are offended at God moving in our churches in a way that we consider undignified. Yet we can miss that God cherishes His House to be a place where the hungry come in need and find Him through prayer.
By staying close to Him and keeping our ear open to Him we are willing to allow Him room in His own House. Amen!
