No Compromise
At that time (the dedication of the wall) the book of Moses was read public ally to the people. The command was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the Assembly of God, because they did not meet the Israelites with food and water. Instead, they hired Balaam against them to curse them, but our God turned the curse into a blessing.
When they heard the law they separated all those of mixed descent from Israel.
Now before this, Eliashib the priest had been out in charge of e storerooms of the house of God. He was a relative of Tobiah and had prepared a large room for him where they had previously stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the articles, and the tenths of grain, new wine, and oil prescribed for the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, along with the contributions for the priests. Nehemiah 13:1-5
Nehemiah had gone back to Babylon to serve the king and again asked for leave. Upon his return he found Tobiah happily ensconced in the temple where all the offering should have been stored.
Tobiah had used his connection with Eliashib to gain entry where he was not permitted. What a weasel!
Eliashib was compromising, perhaps Tobiah dominated Eliashib because of age or the fact that he had friends in high places. Whatever the reason Eiashib should not have compromised.
Do you feel pushed into a compromise in your faith? Do you have family pressures, friends who can't take NO? No matter what we must be able to stand for our faith and all that this entails. Compromise robs of power and cheats all those who needed what we should be providing, instead they have to fend for themselves.
There is no compromise, if we want a powerful life as a Christian. The choice is ours: life or death.
