Who is Master?

"No household slave can be the slave of two masters, since he will either hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can't be slaves to both God and money."
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing Him. And He told them: " You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting to God's sight. Luke 16:13-15

How do we know if we are a slave to money? Perhaps we put it before relationships.

Our culture loves money because it buys us 'toys'. We value our life by the car we drive, the house we live in and the stuff we fill them with.

Jesus told us in Matthew 6 what our priority should be: the kingdom of God, and if we do that then all we need will be added unto us. This is a shift of focus. No longer me but He.

I love the last verse: for what is admired by people is revolting to God. The word 'revolting' is a strong one, it means it is totally abhorrent to God. Totally rejected!

So, if we are caught up measuring our Christianity by the amount of 'blessing' (stuff) then we have the wrong end of the stick. What is blessed really?

Today when I arrived home from Brisbane I sensed a welcoming party on the front lawn, my God was there. That meant more to me than any purchase I could make. His presence is priceless. I unpacked and even took my dogs for a walk and He was still there. I smiled and said "thanks, lovely to have You welcome me!"
