The Beginning of Rest
So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed. By the seventh day God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work He had done. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation. Genesis 2:1-3
Well now here we see the beginning of rest from labour. What God had done on the preceding six days none could say: "I've done that! " or "I've done more!" The creator of all things set a president in place and who could argue with that?
Rest is an integral part of life and labour. All that God did create He was pleased with and said it was good. He put all hat he had into the creation, made it the best it could possibly be and was able to say, "Now for a rest!"
Why did God rest? Scripture tells us He does not get weary, so why did He need rest? Perhaps, like any good father He was setting an example? If He saw rest important then His creation would also understand that it was ok to work hard but to have one day in seven to rest.
I am grateful as I enjoy my weekend and as I work full-time, Saturday is for shopping and house work, Sunday I rest as well as go to church, which is a part of that rest.
I am also grateful for holidays which God also endorsed. We discover that He instructed the Israelites to set aside certain times for festivals when they could feast and rest from their labours.
I am loving my current Christmas break. I have read 11/2 books and aim to have finished the three before Monday. I am learning so much, at times I feel as though I will explode with excitement with the new ideas and direction I am gleaning.
I am sure there was more that God could do, but hey! He had done so much. Scripture talks about not doing 'anxious toil'. There are seasons for everything. It is important we understand God's ways of doing and being. Amen!
