The Fight Against Truth at Christmas
And about this time there was a great commotion about The Way. For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen.
he called them together with the workers of similar occupation, and said, "Men, you know that we have our prosperity by this trade. Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people saying that they are not gods which are made with hands. So not only is this trade of ours in danger of falling into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship."
Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians!"
So the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theatre with one accord, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul's travelling companions. Acts 19:23-29
I was only reading a few days ago that the American government, for the first time, had said, "Happy holiday", instead of Happy Christmas. I am watching the furore that is being caused by the offense that Christmas is being denied acknowledgement.
I received a post on Facebook an article written by a prominent Jew living in America who stated that he had never been offended by the word Christmas, even though it inferred that Christmas was about Christ.
I think that even now the world, even those non-Christan countries, are enjoying the hype that surrounds Christmas and do to recognise Christ at all. The Santa thing has taken hold.
As a Christian I am saddened by the lack of Christ in Christmas, and note that the world frankly does not care. What to do then? Shall I start a movement?
I am praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, that we would have an awakening into the state of our hearts and lives as a whole. I am praying for the young who have sunk to depths of depravity in sexual promiscuity, much as Ephesus was in Paul's day, will have their eyes opened to truth.
The Holy Spirit is the convictor, the bringer of truth the revealer of all that is hidden. I would rather have Him on the case than become bitter and twisted because Christmas has changed. Yet this is our problem and it is something we have to go to prayer about. nothing will change until I decide to pray, how about you?
