God's Regret

Adam was 130 years old when he fathered a son in his likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. Adam lived 800 years after the birth of Seth, and he fathered other sons and daughters. So Adam's life lasted 930 years; then he died. Genesis 5:3-5

It is as if Adam started again. Abel was dead and Cain banished. It is amazing that A man lived so long on the earth. We now struggle to stay alive past 100 yet 900, phew!

Adam was made to live forever but the loss of the tree of life ensued a time of death. As he was the first man I wonder what he did, thought about the future and his part in it.

We are not told anything other than he fathered Seth and then more sons and daughters, probably many sons and daughters over a 900 year life span.

With the birth of Seth men again began to seek God. Yet by verse 28 we see one of Adam's great gradsons fathered Noah and when he was named 'Noah', he said,"this one will bring us relief from the agonising labour of our hands, caused by the ground The Lord has cursed."

We know that God led Noah to build an arc as he planned to wipe out that which He created and start again, some relief.

In Chapter 6:2 The Lord said: "my spirit will not remain with mankind forever, because they are corrupt. Their days will be 120 years."

Again in 6:5-8 : when The Lord saw that man's wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every scheme his mind thought of was nothing but evil all the time, The Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth and He was grieved in His heart. Then The Lord said, 'I will wipe off from the face of the earth mankind, whom I created, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, the birds of the sky- for I regret I made them." Noah, however, found favour in His sight.

The original plan was good, man walking in fellowship with his God, yet sin had corrupted and deformed God's creation to the point of causing Him grief and choosing to plan to start again.

Yet we know that even with a new start, corruption still produced corrupt fruit and God could not continue to start again. There had to be another way.

I am grateful that instead of destruction God chose the ultimate sacrifice, His Son, to redeems us back to himself. Now we have a Way of escape by choosing Life. Again we have access to Life, not through a tree but One who was crucified on a tree to redeem us back. Praise God! I am free because of His redeeming love. I do not have to walk in corruption, but life. Amen!

Jesus himself said: "I am the Way, the Truth and the life." Oh praise Him for coming and giving us. Way of escape.
