A godly legacy
Joseph and his father's house remained in Egypt. Joseph lived 110 years. He saw Ephraim's sons to the third generation; the sons of Manasseh's son Machir were recognised by Joseph.
Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die but God will certainly come to your aid and bring you up from this land to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath: " When God comes to your aid, you are or carry my bones up from here." Joseph died at the age of 110. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt. Genesis 50:22-26
Joseph's pinnacle was the interpretation of the Pharoah's dream and then the instigating of a plan to save the country from starvation during the great famine. We do not hear of any other achievements after that, but I am sure a man of his character had plenty to do in the employment of Pharoah.
Joseph appears to be a good man, not ravaged by the extremes of anger of Simeon and Levi portrayed, the lust and disrespect Ruben portrayed, the deception of his father's house, he was a man apart from them. Where did this come from? His grandfather Isaac was a man like him, as was his great grandfather. He restored godly leadership and goodness in leadership.
He was respected, honoured and blessed. What a testimony!
I look at the many great men today and see Billy Graham as such a man. Billy has held the respect of American presidents throughout his time. He has given a son, daughter and grandson who follow in his footsteps, he has given a legacy and I honour him for that. His late wife was a godly woman and a loyal friend to her husband.
To have such a record must bless the family as well as the nation. Egypt was blessed under Joseph, he led it well.
What legacy will we leave? What will be our testimony? Will we be remembered?
