Blasphemy
You must not blaspheme God or curse a leader among your people. You must not hold back offerings from your harvest or your vats. Give Me the firstborn of your sons. Do the same with your cattle and your flock? Be my holy people. Exodus 22:28-30a, 31a
When irate or offended it is easy to blaspheme God or a leader! it is a trap to rob us of relationship and blessing. When we struggle with an issue, rather than lashing out, it is good to go to God and inquire why? Or how do I respond. Our base nature is emotional and reactive. God is not, He is at peace.
I am assisting a lady with insurance claims and when I heard her life I grieved. How could life be so cruel? Where was God? I am sure He was right there waiting to be invited in. This lady had struggled to hold things together herself, and now she was done, her strength gone. A good time to seek The Lord.
As Christiand we have an expectation that all will be well. I remember hearing of a Christian couple who were crossing the road with their four children and a driver came along, failed to stop and killed two of their children. How hard could that have been? What a test if their faith! I know another Christian man who had epilepsy and while driving, which he should not have done, he had a fit and hit another car, killing he occupants, he went to jail.
There are times that we can look at our behaviour and know why things happen, but other times things cannot be explained. What do we do? Take Job's wife's advice: 'curse Gid and die.' Or turn to Him and sit, like Job, until He shows up.
Nowadays people feel they have a right to curse their leaders, if they do not agree. Where has honour gone? By cursing what are we doing? I suggest we promote darkness and The Lord of the flies.
Why not seek God? Humble yourself and do what Job did. His reward was great. Amen!
