Forgiven Again and Again
The Lord came down in a cloud, stood with Moses there, and proclaimed His name Yahweh. Then The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: Yahweh- Yahweh is a compassionate God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving wrongdoing, rebellion, and sin. But He will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers wrongdoing on the children and grandchildren to a third and fourth generation.
Moses immediately bowed down to the ground and worshipped. Then he said, "My Lord, please go with us. Even through this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wrongdoings and sin, and accept us as Your own possession. Exodus 34:5-9
We all have sinned and gone astray but The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6)
We definite needed a saviour. The Israelites needed God's grace and mercy and when we come to Christ that is what we receive.
Oh grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. To be able to recognise my sin is important but then turn to grace and be forgiven, what joy! What music! What amazing grace!
The problem the Israelites had is at they lived in sin and did not have the perfect sacrifice that would, once and for all, wash them clean of their sin. What a burden to carry! I remember carrying such a burden before I came to Christ, oh the load I carried. All gone in an instant, when I asked Him in.
Moses asked The Lord to go with the sin laden Israelites and use His forgiveness and mercy to handle them. We are given a gift, freedom in Christ. Now his blood covers all our sin! we are free in Him. Yet this freedom has to be walked in, daily or we revert back to works and sin burden.
