Leaders Judged
The Lord spoke to Aaron: "You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die, this is a permanent statute throughout your generations. You must distinguish between the holy and the common, and the clean and the unclean, and teach the Israelites all the statutes that the Lord has given them through Moses." Leviticus 10:8-11
God usually spoke to Moses and Aaron but here He speaks to Aaron. Aaron would be struggling as the Lord just burned two of his sons alive for doing their own thing. Aaron had been wayward in creating the golden calf and now he was having a wake-up call. Aaron's sons would have presumed they could have liberties with God because their father was not judged for his former actions. The sin of the father had come down on the sons.
God now presses Aaron further, he is told that he and his two remaining sons could not drink and enter the Tent of Meeting or they would die, the noose was tightening. Being a priest was a tough job, not an easy walk in the park.
In the New Testament James tells us in Chapter 3:1 Not many should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive a stricter judgment,
So if a leader is judged how is he judged? At this present time, in Australia, a senior Cardinal of the Catholic Church, Cardinal Pell is under scrutiny. During his tenure several people who had been sexually abused by priests were denied justice in the courts because this man approved of aggressive defence and paid more than was being sought in justice to defeat the complainant. Cardinal Pell has been promoted to Rome and before he goes he is being judged by the Australian community.
When Cardinal Pell meets his maker, how will he be judged? If has gone to the Lord in repentance then he will be clean, if he has done his best to repair those he hurt then his community will release him.
I like to keep short accounts as I am not wanting judgement in this life or the next. I cannot be self-righteous and expect the Lord to accept my estimation. At the end of the day, He rules.
