Noah Revisited

When the Lord saw that mankind's wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every scheme his mind thought of was nothing but evil all the time, the Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth and He was grieved in His heart. then the Lord said, "I will wipe off from the face of the earth mankind, whom I created, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, and birds of the sky-for I regret that I have made them." Noah, however found favour in the sight of the Lord." Genesis 6:5-8

I am revisiting this scripture because tonight I went to see the movie: 'Noah.' What a fictitious work, lacking substance. I was annoyed with the errors but realise I should not expect Hollywood to stay true to the scripture.

The unusual thing is I also taught about this story at scripture class on Tuesday, the true story that is.

There were interesting thoughts about what mankind was like at that time. However, Noah was portrayed as a fanatic who did not hear God's voice and therefore made things up as he went along. Shem, Ham and Japheth were portrayed as young men, unmarried. Ham and Japheth had to settle for the fact that there were no suitable women for them to go on the boat. Tubal-cain managed to sneak aboard and corrupt Ham.

So much for Hollywood. I was silly enough to think they would be true to text. Ha!

The worst things about the movie, God was portrayed as an intractable God who did not communicate. Pah!
