His Chosen
But the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob, His own inheritance.
He found him in a desolate land, in a barren, howling wilderness;
He surrounded him, cared for him,
And protected him as the pupil of His eye.
He watches over His nest like an eagle and hovers over His young;
He spreads His wings, catches him,
And lifts him up on His pinions.
The Lord alone led him,
With no help of a foreign god.
He made him ride on the heights of the land an eat the produce of the field.
He nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from flint-like rock,
Cream from the herd and milk from the flock, with the fat of lambs,
Rams from Bashan, and goats,
With the choice grains of wheat;
You drank wine from the finest grapes.
Then Israel
became fat and rebelled......
Deuteronomy 32:9-14
This is a part taken from the last song Moses sang to the Israelites before he died and they went into the promised land. It was a song about their for fathers, themselves and their future, a warning about their sin and the destruction it would bring. In other words a prophetic song.
The Israelites heard it but did not receive it in faith and so did exactly what Moses said they would do, take up foreign gods and rebel and end up in slavery.
In verses 17,18 of the song Moses sings: they sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known, new gods that had just arrived, which your fathers did not fear. You ignored the Rock who gave you birth;...
In 1Corinthians 10:19-20 Paul uses similar wording; 'but I do say that what they (Gentiles) sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God.'
In the New Testament the struggle was again to keep God's people from intermingling their faith with that of foreign gods. Paul went on to say: 'you cannot drink the cup of The Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot share in the Lord's table and the table of demons.'
The Rock that Moses refers to is Christ. He is our rock, the foundation on which we stand, all else is sinking sand.
Throughout history the battle has been to keep the church from idolatry and God has sent new outpourings on his people again and again. I am so grateful to live in this day and age where I can tap into great men and women of God, online, and hear the trumpet sound. I have so much available. I can watch conferences online, I can listen to preached messages anywhere in the world, online. I must put into practice what I hear, it must mix with faith and be applied, otherwise I am a stupid woman hearing but never learning.
I must deal with my 'feelings' and live in faith. I feel many things but they are not God. I have to choose to allow Him to be God over my 'feelings.' What is He doing? Where is He going? What is His heart? These are the things that matter.
