A New Priest

If then, perfection came through the Levitical priesthood ( for under it the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to appear, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not if the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of law as well. For the One these things are spoken about belonged to a different tribe. No one from it has served at the altar. Now it is evident that our Lord came from Judah, and Moses said nothing about that tribe concerning priests.
And this becomes clearer if another priest like Melchizedek appears, who did not become a priest based on a legal command concerning physical descent but based on the power of an indestructible life. For it has been written:
You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. (Ps 110:4) Hebrews 7:11-17

If attending church and believing in God were enough Jesus did not need to change things, but they are not enough. They are devoid of life unless a new spirit abides in the attendee.

I grew up in a home that attended church regularly and in my passion for God I went daily for a period of time but my sins were ever with me. What changed? I met my saviour. He reached out in love and called me to Himself, apart from the religious ritual I had known.

The ritual kept me bound but the relationship liberated me in an instant. His love covered my sin, He forgave me and brought me to Himself.

Melchizedek was freedom and grace in Abraham's life. Aaron was a part of a legal system that ground down a person and chained them to an awareness of their sin.

I have know both and am grateful for my relationship with Christ. His love is amazing and His love drives His covenant with me. Love is missing from the law, or very hard to find. With Christ I can dance in the rain. With the law I have to buy an umberella. I know what I prefer. Amen!
