A New Day
While the Israelites camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they kept the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month. The day after the Passover they ate unleavened bread and rosted grain from the produce of the land. And the day after they ate from the produce of the land, the manna ceased. Since there was no more manna for the Israelites, they ate from the crops of the land of Caanan that year. Joshua 5:10-12
God had faithfully provided manna for the past 40 years. What would it have been like to actually have to harvest grain, crush it into flour and make their bread?
The promised land required more effort. The Israelites had to go out and harvest the crops. I imagine the women would have had to do this as the men were unable. Who would teach them what to do? I am sure there were a few bad batches to start with. How would they crush the grain?
Meanwhile the inhabitants of the land are quaking in their boots. I imagine they would have been strategizing how to fight this invader, would they be planning where to send their children and wives?
What am unusual thing! The invaders stop to circumcise their men, raid the fields for grain, have a feast. A most unusual army. How do you manage such an invader?
Are we posing the same problems to our enemies? We are to defeat anger, fear, lust, addictions, laziness, apathy to name a few. Like huge fat squatters in the land they sit and appraise us: 'will they actually take us on and endeavor to defeat us'? they wonder.
What is the prize? Freedom in Christ, wholeness, abundance, liberty for the captives, righteousness, truth and justice for all.
As the Christian reigns freedom prevails. What are you called to take possession of so that your world may be impacted by Christ in you?
