Moses and Faith
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharoah's daughter and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the short-lived pleasure of sin. For he considered the reproach because of the Messiah to be greater wealth than the treasure of Egypt, since his attention was on the reward.
By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king's anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees Him who is invisible.
By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch the Israelites.
Hebrews 11:24-28
I don't know where the record of Moses not wanting to be considered the son of the Pharoah's daughter comes from. I have just completed a study of the first 5 books of the OT and this was not mentioned. Perhaps there were other texts available. Exodus does mention he went out to see his people and saw their forced labour and endeavoured to help but ended up killing an Egyptian. When the Pharoh found our he sought to kill Moses and Moses fled. Yet the author of Hebrews talks of Moses' actions as that of faith. There must have been more to the story. However, on the face of it, we, as onlookers, would not have judged Moses' actions to be that of faith.
It is interesting that even though Moses murdered a man God still bothered with him, still used him to be the vehicle of deliverance and care for his people for 40 odd years. This speaks to me more of God's faith and vision than Moses'.
But then faith is what God is all about. I remember He gave me a dream in 1995, in which He spoke to me and told me I was a woman of faith. Back then I was not as seasoned as I am now and I was quite pleased. Little did I know then God was speaking in faith of the day when I would be a woman of faith. Little did I know the training I was about to experience. 'Woe to me!' (I liked that line from the aunt in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, another was, 'you don't eat meat.... Never mind I'll cook lamb.')
Meanwhile, God is the author of faith and we are called to live by faith, because that is where He lives. Amen! Happy faithing!
