Failure to Grasp the More
As they were coming down from the mountain, He ordered them to tell no one what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. They kept this word to themselves, discussing what "rising from the dead" meant. Mark 9:9,10
Peter, James and John had just had an experience of a lifetime. They had seen Jesus as He would be in glory. It freaked them out. They saw Elijah and Moses talking with Jesus, other gospels say they were discussing Jesus' death.
Jesus, rightly so, tell them not to talk about the experience until after He had risen from the dead. Jesus had already brought Jairus' daughter back to life yet they failed to grasp the depth of OT scripture in Isaiah which spoke of Him being led like a lamb to the slaughter.
This makes me wonder about our understanding of Christ in our churches. What we see and experience is not all there is to expect, there is more, much more. I am continually learning more out of scripture I have read for years. Again and again I find new revelation. I am hungry for more. How about you?
History tells us His story but history is not all there is. I want the new, the fresh, the vital.
