Proud of Me, I Am
Then they came to Capernaun. When He was in the house, He asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" But they were silent, because on the way thy had been arguing with one another about who was the greatest. Sitting down He called the Twelve and said to them, " If anyone want to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all. Then He took a child, had him stand among them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever welcomes one little child such as this in My Name welcomes Me. And whoever welcomes Me does not welcome Me, but Him who sent Me." Mark 9:33-37
Oh how we can get off track and full of pride. Pride focuses on one things we happen to get right and makes us think we are kings of the heap. For a period of time we forget that it was our God who enabled us. So, to learn the support structure disappears and we land in the poo and realise, "I allowed myself to become proud again." We will not be damned to hell for our failure, if we recognise our mistake, ask of forgiveness, we can quickly move on. We are learning and our God knows that.
Little children, like really little children, don't know pride, they are innocent and delightful.
Children learn pride as they grow up, they have plenty of tutors, the world is full of pride.
I think of my youngest grandson, Ollie. He cannot talk yet, he is only 18months old, he is delightful.
Ellie, his sister, is almost 4 and she doesn't suffer with the disorder much either. They have other lessons to learn but pride is not on the radar yet. I enjoy their innocence.
The older grandchildren begin to notice, when they go to school, what is cool and in and begin to identify with what they see. My prayer is that they retain a strong individual bent that walks in freedom, rather in conformity to a look or ownership of stuff. I pray they have a heart for the One in who their freedom resides. Amen!
