A Law Unto Themselves

There was a man from the hill country of Ephraim named Micah.
This man Micah had a shrine, and he made an Ephod and household idols and installed one of his sons to be his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel; and everyone did whatever he wanted.
The was a young man, a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, who resided within the clan of Judah. The man left the town of Bethlehem in Judah to settle wherever he could find a place. On his way he came to Micah's home in the hill country of Ephraim. Judges 17:1:1;5-8

What purpose this story has I do not know, God only knows. Yet we see the scripture says: Israel did not have a king and every man did as he wanted. The need was more for a leader who would bring the people back to truth, a priest that would know the scripture and preach it.

This young Levite was probably too young to start ministry, as this normally begun at 30. He was seeking any place he could find, not where The Lord led. It appears that although he was of the Levitical clan he had not the full appreciation of all that entailed. In other words he looked good on the surface but in reality was useless.

Last night I attended Hillsong Brisbane, at Mt Gravatt and heard a young man in his 20's preach. He was newly appointed on staff as a pastor. He was diligent to study the scripture and seemed to have an appreciation of what his role involved. As possessed to the young man mentioned here in scritpure, he did not. If he had he would not have entertained sharing his role with idolatry, which was very much a part of the household he went to and accepted willingly.

As a Christian I must know the God I serve and know His word, always. I am useless without it's shaping of my life. The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, discerning between bone and marrow, able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

We need the word of God in our lives or we become a law unto ourselves. Amen!
