Enduring Abuse

Household slaves, submit with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel. For it brings favour if, mindful of God's will, someone endures grief from suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if you sin and are punished, and you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer, if you endure it, this brings favour from God. For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in His steps. 1Peter 2:18-21

How does this work? Our western culture rises up and leaves, fights back, goes to the trade union. Yesterday I read a post on Facebook about the trafficking of people in India to work on tea plantations. Employers do not want to pay the minimum wages and so a market for slaves opens up and innocent people are lured into slavery.

There are two parallels running in this world of ours and have been since time began. There are those who control and those who profit from the poor on one side and the masses of poor who have no voice on the other. It seems we need William Wilberfore to rise again in the west.

Fortunately we see several Williams and they are wearing skirts, mostly. God is raising up His team who will fight for the poor.

Us westerners are well cared for, we are fat babies who scream at the slightest provocation yet there are those who need our defence and they are downtrodden. We lose weight as we go to aid the needy.

Jesus, the King of Kings lay down His crown to serve us and I am grateful. He endured the worst possible abuse for us and God gave Him the highest honour imaginable. He is seated at the right hand of God in heaven.

Those who endure receive honour, the book of Revelation tells us, honour and glory are waiting. Amen!
