Hidden But Not Dead
When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released. So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen, and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the Rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb. Matthew 28:57-61
The first thing I wonder is: was Joseph the rich young ruler who came to Jesus and asked what he must do to obtain eternal life? If he was, it is good to find him here being faithful and lacking fear. The Lord loved the rich young man and I can sense his love for this man.
The next thing I notice: Mary Magdalene and the 'other' Mary were seated facing the tomb. They would have been exhausted with grief. They watched the one they loved be brutalised and see Him die, bereft of the Father. As a woman I know I would have be gutted if all energy.
Yet, there was a divine plan. Jesus entered the tomb but the Spirit of God hovered over the darkness. He was there on a mission. Jesus would go down to hell triumphant. Satan would have expected a defeated Jesus but here He was in glory. Where did the glory come from? Jesus had paid the price for sin. Satan did not see that coming. Jesus had come to preach to the captives and take them home. This was the first evangelists crusade, hope and life had come into the underworld. Amen! Glory!
This reminds me, when faced by what appears as death and destruction a greater plan is at work. Our God is at work. Life is coming out of darkness. Life is hidden in a tomb, soon to break forth. Amen!
