How to Love?
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Saducees, they came together. And one of them, an expert of the law, asked Hum a question to test Him: "teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?"
He said to him, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands."
Matthew 22:34-40
It is not so much that we do this command, to love out of guilt or shame for not loving but more a stepping into relationship with the Lord and others.
Now this love relationship cannot be done casually, but in deed and in truth, intentionally, choosing to get to know this Lord and savour His breath, His presence, His whispers and look for Him, seeking Him out, longing for Him as a deer looks for water.
Loving others cannot be done casually. We must choose to linger and spend time savouring the uniqueness of the other. Love is not a hurried thing, it is a slow, no, measured, fruity, exploration.
Love is patient and kind. Amen!
