Discerning Our Enemies

When all the Kings heard about Jericho and Ai, those who were west of the Jordan in the hill country, in the Judean foothills, and all along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea towards Lebanon- they formed a unified alliance to fight against Joshua and Israel.

When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they acted deceptively. Joshua 9:1-3

Two different reactions by different people. Always we must discern those who will outwardly oppose our team. And fight with us as opposed to those who pretend they are something other than what they are to protect themselves.

Joshua, again, did not seek the Lord. If he had he would not have been deceived. Because he chose to act in his own wisdom, the whole of Israel were bound by a covenant to live peaceably with their enemies. Thus meant they could go on worshipping idols in their midst. Bad move!

The message we are getting is, seek the Lord first, not when it is too late. When flush with a success we rush on, too hastily, whilst emotion is heightened and make foolish judgements, based on our emotional judgement, not discernment or divine wisdom.

Seek God at all times! Amen!
