Lord of the Sabbath?

On the Sabbath He was going through the grain fields, and Hus disciples began to make their way picking some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"
He said to them, Have you never read what David and those who were with him did when he was in need and hungry- how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the sacred bread- which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests- and also gave some to his companions?" Then He told them, "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." Mark 2:23-28

These words would have deeply offended the Pharisees. Imagine a man coming along to your church and saying that it is no longer necessary to take communion because he was the lord returned and now you had him in your presence communion would no longer be necessary.

As a minister of the Gospel, a pastor would be aware he needed to establish the biblical validity of the man, was he indeed Chrsit returned or an imposter. This was the Pharisee's dilemma. The Pharisees had kept sacred the law for hundreds of years and now they were challenged with a man who claimed to be the Messiah.

We expect Jesus to return in the clouds and take His people home. What if He surprises us and we have misinterpreted the scripture. How would we know it was Him? Fortunately we have the Spirit of God, the Spirit of discernment dwells with Him. We can trust the Holy Spirit to not lead us in a wrong direction. We are told in scripture that many false teachers would come and claim to be Him but that a correct spirit would be in the right one. If anyone comes and claims to be Christ and does not walk as He walked, in humility and righteousness, purity and integrity, then he is a fake.

A humble heart can find the truth. A fool is easily deceived but a man or woman of integrity can not be fooled. Amen!

We are deceived when our enemy uses our hidden agendas to trick us. Knowing ourselves and staying close to the Lord protects us. Amen!
