Facing Pain and Stepping Through, One Step at a Time

Then they came to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, "Sit here while I pray." He took Peter, James and John with Him, and he began to be deeply distressed and horrified. Then He said to them, "My soul is swallowed up in sorrow. To the point of death. Remain here and stay awake." Then He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, "Abba, Farher! All things possible for You.mtake this cup away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will." Mark 14:32-36

Gethsemane was a place they used to go. Jesus went to a place He knew and felt comfortable in. I love gardens, I sense the Lord's presence more there, especially around trees. This does not mean they are more hallowed, just they do it for me.

I love this scripture because Jesus is displaying His humanness, we can relate when faced with something we must go through and are terrified of. He was terrified and yet willing to submit. I can draw strength from that.

Over the years there have been many such times: I take a deep breath, pray and step out. Yes I am afraid but I step out and trust for the next little piece I see.

Today I was telling my coach how I coax myself to run up a hill. I refuse to look to the top. I look a little way in front and aim for that, they I do it again, and again. This is how I have handled all the crushing blows that have come. I am still here, praise God, because of Him, I live!

Jesus wanted His closest friends to be 'pain partners,' for Him. They failed. Many will fail, few will stay, many will leave. But there is One who does not leave, Jesus is His name. He has been through this and I can trust Him. Amen!
