Helping Us Remember
As they were eating, He took bread blessed and broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is My body."
Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is My blood that establishes the covenant, it is shed for many. I assure you: I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it in a new way in the kingdom of God." After singing psalms, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:22-26
Jesus was a story teller, a man who helped those with Him remember through symbolism and metaphors. Here they were celebrating the Old Covenant Passover and Jesus introduces the New Covenant, the shedding of His blood would once and for all time deal with the penalty of sin.
I loved using stories with my children to teach them a lesson. I remember once going on a long journey and told a continuous story that lasted for four hours or more. They were spellbound. It kept them quiet.
To teach my children about moods I made up a story about Mr Doom and Mr Gloom. This was in 1983 Mr Happy had been around since 1997. I am not sure if I knew about him then but we were on a similar wavelength.
I sing a particular song to my grandchildren about patience. They will forever remember Nanny's song. If fact they may think I created it, i didn't. I think it came off a Bullfrogs and Butterflies.
Tonight my son called and all the children talked all at once. However, Archie asked if Nanny was bringing presents next week and his dad said, "nanny is enough!" To which Archie piped up, "but I bet the answer is 'Yes!'" Of course Nanny could not disappoint.
Rituals and stories, symbolism and songs. All very important. They help us remember in a very special way!
