Intrusion of Truth
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and the sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else that is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusts to me. 1Tim 1:8-11
It is interesting to note adulterers are coupled with perverts, would one who breaks their marriage covenant see themselves as this? Not today! Would liars see themselves coupled with slave traders? No! But here both of these are listed in sinful behaviour, in fact: irreligious and ungodly behaviour.
What do we do with this revelation? Do we sit and let it speak to our spirits or throw it off as useless and irrelevant teaching?
In my business I am having to deal with the anger of clients requested to provide a lot of personal information to receive what they want. Some rage against the intrusion. Yet logic dictates: if you want the reward, provide the information.
What do I do with the rage? I am obliged to be courteous but also I need to be firm and endeavour to extract the information. I do not like this part of my job, yet like all occupations it is necessary.
With God, we want assurance of eternal life, yet are we prepared for the intrusion? Do we want the level of honesty required to confess our sins, or even acknowledge our sins?
If we choose rage over truth we will confine ourselves to a cage of self-righteousness and eternal damnation. What will we choose: life or death?
