Honourable or Dishonourable?

Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver bowls, but also those of wood and clay, some for honourable use, some for dishonourable. So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonourable, he will be a special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Tim 2:20,21

This scripture seems to say, if you are currently only employed in dishonourable service, purify yourself from dishonourable practices and then you will become a special instrument that is set apart for good use.

We can have layers of dirt on our souls. We can allow things to stay that never should be there. In the Old Testament even the patriarchs tolerated family members keeping their pet idols. We see Jacob do this with his wife Rebecah. We can be like this in our own lives. Pornography is a big example, but so is backbiting and gossip. What filthy things do we have smeared on our insides? Is there hatred, envy, strife, rebellion? Is there addiction? What do we give ourselves to in a weak moment? What do we watch to 'relax?'

What excuses do we have for unholiness? Is there a nasal twang, a whining, winging corrupt weasel within? Get the bat and smack it! You are the righteousness of God! Act like it!

The above scripture carries a promise, to be set apart for an honourable task. Do it! And you will be glad you did.
