Hold on to Grace
Make sure you have not rejected the One who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected Him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from Him who warns us from heaven. His voice shook the earth at that time, but now He has promised, ' yet once more I will not only shake the earth but also the heaven.' This expression, 'yet once more,' indicated the removal of what can be shaken- that is, created things- so that what is not shaken remains. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:25-29
The writer of Hebrews understands the respect that should be afforded to God, do we? Many create a slot for God in their lives, by they are in control. In the wilderness, in the Old Testament, God's people chose not to enter into a close relationship with God and instead told Moses to be the mediator. Whilst Moses was on the mountain with God, they were busy making and worshipping a god of their making, a golden calf. God was not impressed. In fact He judged the people and was ready to wipe them all out. However, Moses pleaded for their lives, ground the golden calf into gold dust and poured on water and made them drink it.
We are advised in the scriptures above not to go here, making our own god and worshipping what we have made. We love control, but God wants control.
We are advised to hold onto grace, because we inherit a kingdom we cannot see but one that cannot be shaken. Anything we build will be shaken but God's Kingdom cannot be shaken. Amen!
Isn't it interesting that the very thing that will continue to save us is grace, the very thing that saved us in the first place. We cannot underestimate grace. Amen!
